Matthew began his study of the healing arts in 1994 under the tutelage of Dai Shihan, Professor, Robert Hudson, LAc., Kudan, Danzan Ryu Jujitsu, from whom he continues his studies today.  Matthew graduated from The Arizona School of Massage Therapy as the valedictorian of his Professional Program class of 2013. He has 23 years of experience helping his clients reduce and eliminate their pain, and improve their structure, function and performance. His clients have included: world class athletes, law enforcement officials, fire fighters, paramedics, paraplegics, cancer survivors, students, family, and neighborhood friends.  Matthew is thoroughly committed to helping advance human potential through professional massage and bodywork therapeutics. And, he is a strong advocate of lifelong learning through professional education and the highest standards of professional conduct.

At A.B.T. (Advanced Bodywork Therapeutics) we begin our sessions through developing a personal relationship with each client that includes a thorough structural, functional, and energetic assessment of our client’s condition. We believe that this first step is the most important because it provides us with a “road-map” of where to go and then what to do next. Locations of pain and dysfunction are not always a simple matter to address. Regular structural, HOPRS, and chi assessments are conducted throughout our relationship with the client in order to document our progress and then adapt our therapy as necessary. We do not believe that the most effective therapy can be provided without complete assessments. We work with our clients to learn about their specific needs, goals, and concerns. We encourage a professional dialogue with our clients and their professional medical team in order to best coordinate our plan of action while we are especially careful not to exceed our scope of practice.  Through our hearts and our hands we deliver compassion, honesty, trust, and precision therapy because our client’s well-being and privacy is of paramount importance to us.

Besides caring for his massage and bodywork clients, Matt is the Sensei of Mu Kan Ken Dojo.  He is a Renshi of Danzan Ryu Jujutsu, and a Godan (5th Degree Black Belt) senior instructor at Halau O Ho Omana Dojo. For over two decades Matthew has dedicated a large part of his life to learning, and teaching his students the mindful self defense mastery of the Japanese Hawaiian Danzan Ryu Jujutsu. His motto is: “Warrior, Healer, Scholar – Always the Student, Strive for Mastery”.  He enjoys the seeming paradox of warrior/healer; that one cannot exist without the other, and only through scholarly attempts can one progress toward self mastery. The reason Matthew chose restoration therapy as a career, or perhaps it chose him, is because he has witnessed so much pain and suffering close to home and in the world. So, he decided to use his hands to help the best way he knows how, one person at a time.  Thus, the jujitsu and massage therapy connection.

Matthew Sensei looks forward to assisting you on your path toward wellness.
